Maďarská závodnice Vivien Keszthelyi má vysoké ambice, jelikož se chce dostat až do formule 1. Povede se jí to? O tom jsme se pobavili v exkluzivním rozhovoru pro trueracing.cz.
Teprve devatenáctiletá dívka zahájila kariéru netradičně, jelikož narozdíl od většiny závodníků nejezdila motokárové závody. I když závodí teprve pár let, tak už o sobě svými výsledky dává vědět.
„Jednoduše nebylo v Maďarsku na výběr. Formulové kategorie by pravděpodobně nebyly bez tréninku na motokárách dobré. Zahájila jsem kariéru v motorsportu ve třinácti letech, a protože jsem neměla konkrétní dlouhodobé cíle (nemohla jsem mít, protože jsem předtím nezávodila), tak jsem nevěděla, jak na tom budu v porovnání s ostatními a zkušenými dospělými,” říká Vivien.
„Protože jsem neměla žádné závodní zkušenosti a nikdo v mé rodině předtím nezávodil, navštívili jsme Rakousko jako diváci během závodního víkendu, kde kromě ostatních jezdily i závodní vozy Suzuki. To byl ten moment, kdy jsem propadla lásce k motorsportu. Měla jsem štěstí, že mě rodiče naučili jak řídit, řadit a základní věci. V Maďarsku není mnoho možností ke startu v jiných kategoriích, protože jsem byla už trochu stará na motokáry, a tak zahájila jsem mojí cestu s vozem pro Suzuki Cup.”
Následovalo závodění v Audi TT-Cup a Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup, kde závodnice získala i stupně vítězů. Trochu překvapivě se rozhodla pro formule 3, kde sbírá potřebné zkušenosti.
„Během závodění s vozem TCR jsem vyhrála dva mistrovské tituly mezi dospělými v mezinárodním poli v pouhých patnácti letech, poté jsem se stala nováčkem roku a celkovým vicemistrem v GT kategorii v roce 2018. To byl rok, kdy jsem usoudila, že je dobré jít do kategorie formule 3, kde jsem odjela dvě sezony na dvou kontinentech. Byla to obrovská výzva ve všech ohledech.”
Mimochodem už je to pár let zpátky, ale Vivien se ukázala s vozem pro TT Cup i na našem brněnském okruhu.
„Ano, v roce 2016 jsem startovala jako člen Audi Sport Racing Academy v Brně v rámci závodu Zóny střední Evropy, kde jsem vyhrála vytrvalostní i sprintovou kategorii.”
I když se Vivien rozhodla pro závodění s formulovými monoposty, nabízí se i například DTM Trophy, které je pro mladé jezdce lákavé a zajímavě finančně ohodnocené.
„Nemyslím si, že tento rok odjedu celou sezonu v cestovních vozech, ale není vyloučené, že se objevím v závodě s vozem GT. Řekla bych, že to je skutečná výzva a takové série dělají mladé jezdce lepšími závodníky.”
Závodnice se momentálně přeorientovala na monoposty, ale celkově má její kariéra zvláštní postup. V loňském roce startovala kromě asijské formule 3 i ve W Series.
„Formulová kategorie je vrcholem motorsportu. Jako závodnice, která trochu neobvykle závodila v obou kategoriích (i cestovní vozy) mohu říct, že formule nejsou jednoduché i přesto, že jsem v prvních sezonách získala nejvíc bodů v historii maďarského motorsportu, co se týká formule 3.
Nebylo to absolutně v plánu, protože jak jsem říkala, je to hodně odlišný svět. Nebyla jsem si ani jistá, zda mohu být úspěšnou formulovou závodnicí po cestovních vozech. Důvod toho byl z obav, že je to hodně odlišné přejít z cestovních vozů k formulím během mrknutí oka. V minulosti nebylo tolik úspěšných příkladů, obvykle to funguje naopak.”
Budoucnost má Vivien otevřenou, právem je velkou nadějí pro maďarský motorsport. I když je cesta ještě dlouhá, třeba dosáhne nejvyšších met v podobě formule 1.
„Budoucí plány v těchto kategoriích nezáleží jenom na mně, jde o hodně věcí. V každém případě jsem o krok blíže formuli 1 nebo formuli E, což je obrovský úspěch. Nicméně můj tým a moji sponzoři čelí náročnému financování a dalším výzvám, které jsou mnohem větší tím, čím jdu výše. Takže budoucnost nezáleží pouze na mně. Jedno je jisté: Nechci závodit v sérii, která pro mě nebude výzvou.”

Vivien, your career started in racing cars, not karting. Why was that?
Vivien: There was simply no other choice in Hungary. The formula entry category probably would not have been an option without go-kart training, and thus it would not have gone well. I started my career in motor sport at the age of 13, and since I did not have specific long-term goals at the time – I could not have, since I had not raced before –, in terms of development I did not know where I was compared to experienced adults.
Since I had no racing history and no one in my family had raced before, we visited Austria as spectators for a race weekend, where – among others – Suzuki race cars were competing. That was the point when I fell in love with motor sport, and I was able to convince my parents to allow me to learn to drive, shift gears, and master the basics. In Hungary, there are not too many opportunities to start in other categories, and I was already too old to start with karting, so I began my journey with a Suzuki Cup race car.
Gradually you got into the Audi TT-Cup and the Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup. Would you like to continue to the GT3 with Audi, for example?
Vivien: Competing in the touring car category with a TCR car, I won two championship titles in the adult international field at the age of 15, after that I became the Rookie champion and absolute vice-champion in the GT category in 2018. That was the year when I earned the right to enter the Formula 3 category, where I have completed two seasons in two different continents. It was a huge challenge in every way.
Since we are a Czech website, I want to ask if you have ever raced in the Czech Republic?
Vivien: Yes, in 2016 I raced as a member of the Audi Sport Racing Academy in Brno in the Central European Zone Trophy touring car championship and won both the endurance and sprint categories.
Even if the participation of the DTM is endangered, is it possible to see you in the DTM Trophy this year? And what do you think about this series that is supposed to help young riders?
Vivien: I do not think I will complete a full season in a touring car series this year, but it is not ruled out that I will compete in a GT race.
Nowadays, there are more and more touring and GT series running in parallel that are completed with similar race cars, which we have become accustomed to in the Formula category as well. If it is combined with financial help, it can be extremely important for all young drivers. Throughout my career so far, I’ve been on this path too, racing in series with similar cars in the touring, GT and Formula 3 category. I think that is the real challenge, and those series make young pilots better racing drivers.
What do you enjoy more, racing cars or touring cars? (And why?)
Vivien: The Formula category is the pinnacle of motorsport. As a driver, who competed in both categories in an unusual way, I can say that the Formula category is not easy despite the fact that in terms of the first seasons, I scored the most points in the history of Hungarian motorsport in the F3 category. This was absolutely not planned, because as I mentioned, it is a completely different world, I wasn’t even sure for the first time that I could be a successful Formula driver after the touring car category. The reason behind the doubts was that it is very difficult to change form touring cars to Formula racing in a blink of an eye. There haven’t been many successful examples of it in the past so far. Usually it works easier the other way around.
Your career is just beginning. What are your goals for the future?
Vivien: The future goals in these categories don’t just depend on me, it has a lot of components. In each case I got a chance to take a step closer to F1 or Formula E, which is a huge accomplishment. However, my team and my sponsors have to face serious financial and other challenges, which are getting even bigger as I a moving forward. So the upcoming opportunities are not just up to me. One thing is for sure: I do not want to compete in a series that is not challenging for me.
