Porsche takes retro colors to Le Mans - remembers 356 SL Coupé
The Porsche, along with the customer team Manthey, seeks a third win in a row in a 24-hour Le Mans race. The 94th edition of this endurance classic is held on June 13 and 14 at La Sarthe in northwest France.
Manthey will deploy two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars to class LMGT3. In 2026, both 911 cars will compete in silver colours on the occasion of "75 years of Porsche Motorsport."
The colour of two racing cars from Weissach is based on the design of the Porsche 356 SL Coupé from 1951. This year, the two French Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche secured a victory in their class at the first ever Porsche participation in a 24-hour Le Mans race. The racing cars of a sports car manufacturer based in Zuffenhausen have achieved a total of 19 overall wins and 112 wins in their class. For 76 years in a row, there will be at least one Porsche car on the starting grid of the world's biggest endurance race.
"We are not only a record holder in the total number of victories and victories in our class, but also the only producer who has had at least one car on the starting grid in Le Mans since 1951," says Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of the Porsche Motorsport.
